I just finished the novel Memoirs of Geisha and my friend has lent me the movie. Can't wait to get home and watch it. Strangely enough after finishing the book I have such an overpowering urge to visit Japan and try on a authentic Kimono. Has anybody read the book or seen the movie? What were your thoughts?
I've seen the movie, it's very interesting. I've seen it more than a year ago and I still remember it very well.
I think Japan is a great country, its traditions differ from our traditions very much. A friend of mine visited Japan, he said that it's like you are in another world. I'd love to visit Japan, but I'm not sure if I would like to try on Kimono:) I think it's very uncomfortable to wear it...
Oksana, I think one of the main reasons i would like to visit Japan is to experience the different culture and traditions. Stuff like that amazes me. Id have to agree that I heard Kimonos are very uncomfy but I think just to try it on would be a interesting experience! most definitely Japan is on my future travel list .
Hi there..I too have seen the movie...I really liked it...I have a kimono actually..not to wear tho..I love antiques and collect a variety of things... enjoy the movie...
Hi Oksana...oh boy..where to start...honestly...I got to this site from surfing for clothing..I like vintage..I just got two of the greatest hats..presently looking for an original newsboy..YOU might have one ::)) I buy transferware..ironstone..have a fondness for good pewter..enjoy old composition dolls...in good shape...those are restored now.." and you can get some lovelies." I have old linens w/ lace..cutwork..love old duvets that are Euro..I enjoy well done art..and have a few pieces of American artists..and you know, it is fun bc you can make a day out of these shows and flea markets and make your apt. into a new syle within a few weeks and for unbelievable pricing..and if you tend to get bored, then you can change quickly..something I'm famous for ...My changes occur w/ the linens and bedcoverings bc it can go from French County to Shabby Chic back to Traditional and classic plus elegant looks..
Phew...guess you werent ready for this answer..
Take care everyone..Have a good day...

That's so interesting! I think that's very good when people are interested in so many things and polymathic! That would be great if you could upload photos of some of these things. That will be very interesting for me:)
I also like beautiful things and arts, but now I have only a collection of elephants:)
In future I'd like to buy paintings and different artistic things...
Wow bobbie that is so neat that you collect all of those interesting things I am still trying to find some sort of Hobby that will keep me interested (I tend to get bored quickly)
Well Ladies, I finally watched the movie and I have to say it was a bit dissappointing I felt that they left out a lot of key factors that were important. I think the only reason I was able to follow the movie is because I had read the book so I was excited when the different characters would make their entrance but my boyfriend had no idea what was going on haha. Overall the book gets an A plus plus plus while the movie was a B minus.
I agree with you, Larissa. The movie does leave out a lot of parts. I still absolutely loved both. Definitely in my top three books, as well as movies. Even though lots of details are missing, the movie still does inhabit the true feelings in the book. I lived in Japan for three years; one of my children was born there. It's an amazing country. I have even had photos taken in kimono. The people are lovely and the women are very demure. The country is so rich in culture; there is something fascinating around every corner, really!
