About Me:
Recently graduated with a Biology degree, I am now engaged and about to start a new job in healthcare. My new life in Minneapolis has allowed me the time and inspiration to pursue my passion for cooking. I try many different recipes but I enjoy creating my own. I especially like the challenge of creating healthy versions of many traditional American, European and other ethnic dishes.
To balance the food aspect, exercise plays a huge role in my life. I like to try new exercise techniques, ones that are new to me anyway.
It is for this reason that I created my blog Healthy and Gourmet (http://www.healthyandgourmet.blogspot.com.) I want to share my recipes and my passion for healthy living.

Garlic and Lime Shrimp with Riesling Sauce

Shrimp is possibly the most effortless seafood to prepare. It cooks quickly and pairs wells with many herbs and seasonings. This recipe is quite simple but requires at least two hours in the refrigerator for the seasonings to meld; best if left over night. Fill them into endive spears and you'll have an enticing ap… Continue

Indio and Guacamole

A chic new restaurant has made its mark in Uptown Minneapolis. Indio. A nuevo Mexican restaurant that is redefining what we had sadly come to know and accept as Mexican food in Minneapolis. I must admit, I never intended to eat there. We had originally set out to eat at another restaurant but, without reservations on a Friday night, had to quickly make other plans. Indio was just a couple stores down in the same plaza. Also, it was winter in Minnesota and I definitely did not want to stand aroun… Continue

I'm seeing red

Red. The color of passion, the color of power, the color of energy. When we see red colors, our emotions tend to change. Sometimes in a positive manner, as when we are in love (or lust.) Sometimes, too, red can can have a negative effect. For example, red cars are more likely to be stolen, and some psychologists agree that persons who wear red to negotiation meetings are less likely to have a productive meeting but more likely to have a confrontational one.

When it comes to food, red seems to a… Continue

Natasha

It's finally here and it showed me something new.

Just one look around the lake and parks in Minneapolis and you would know: spring is finally here. The tell tale sign is not the melting ice or the tiny buds now visible on some trees or even the rain showers. You know that it is spring by the hundreds of people jogging around that lakes now. It is as though all of the city has come out of hibernation. There are people every where! Forgive me if i sound a little flaky or foreign but this is not a frequent sight here during the winter. The winter… Continue

Quail Eggs

As a child, for me Easter was characterized as a time of milk chocolate shaped like rabbits and ornately carved eggs, palm branches in church on palm Sunday, hot cross buns on easter Sunday morning, and lunch when aunts, uncles and cousins would come to our house for a meal centered around fish or seafood of some kind. My favorite was a freshwater crayfish stew made by my aunt whom I had fruitlessly entreated to prepare again for me and has to this day not obliged. I'm sure she wanted to but tha… Continue

Oksana is a Ukrainian variant of Russian name - Ksenia (Ksyusha in short), in Ancient Greek it means - "guest", "hospitable", "wanderer". A lot of definitions of one word... lol... This name has some variants that's why different people call me different names - some call Oksana, some Ksyusha, some Ksyuha and so on:)))
