princess bubble: she’s no damsel in distress
http://www.mamabirddiaries.com/drooling-over-this/princess-bubble-shes-no-damsel-in-distress/
I truly enjoy all the princess madness… the gowns, the glitter, the tiaras. I love watching my girls dress up and I’ll be totally honest, I once tried to squeeze myself into one of their gowns. Turns out, I am not a toddler size 5.
But I just loathe those needy princesses. You know the ladies. Cinderella, Belle, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel and a few others who… Continue

Once upon a time there were two Delta flight attendants who were single and unapologetic. Together, the women wrote a book that turned the traditional princess narrative on its head. The end.
Actually, Susan Johnston and Kimberly Webb's story of Princess Bubble is the opposite of "the end" theory, in which every princess gets her man a… Continue

I, Susan Johnston, am no longer a flight attendant; but I flew for eighteen years. I know there are many, many professions that require workers to work Christmas Eve and Christmas Day or other holidays. Nurses, doctors, firemen, police officers, wait staff, hotel employees, all airport personnel … work holidays.
As a flight attendant, when I was flying we received no holiday pay. That has changed at Delta; but the pay cuts the flight attendants have taken over the past few years have been extre… Continue

The Good and the Bad of Children’s Books
It wasn’t that long ago that various media (frommagazines toblogs)spoke up in disbelief over My Beautiful Mommy, a children’s book by Michael Salzhauer. Anything I have to say about the book won’t be anything new, but needless to say, it’s problematic given its glamourisation of plastic surgery.
Some good news, though? Well, it seems it’s been available for some time now, but I got an email from Susan Johnston this week about her book,Princess Bubble. F… Continue

Princess Bubble (minus Prince Charming)
Courtesy of PrincessBubble.com
When "Princess Bubble" crossed my desk I wasn't sure what to think of it. The little book follows the adventures of Princess B as she journeys, prince-less, to acceptance that her life is great as it is and that she doesn't need a prince to be happy.
This isn't a man-hating book at all, just a kid-friendly rewrite of the usual fairytale. Princess Bubble travels, makes friends, loves her family, and is content with where sh… Continue

Auburn Alumna writes fairy tale book with message
By Sarah Loveless
Once upon a time, Auburn alumna Susan Johnston decided it was time to show women of all ages that they could have just as much joy without a "prince charming" as they would with one. So, she wrote a book, Princess Bubble.
Johnston graduated in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in public relations, and is a forth generation Auburn graduate.
Her Auburn experience with public relations equipped her with the skills needed to do most… Continue

Book review: Princess Bubble
By Jessica Gafkowitz
Princess Bubble, written by Susan Johnson and Kimberly Webb, is a truly unique children's book; it tells a nontraditional fairytale with a modern twist.
Princess Bubble is not only a princess. She graduated from college and is working as a flight attendant to satisfy her desire to travel and meet new people. She buys her own home and frequently spends time with her friends, who are getting married to live "happily ever after". Princess Bubble is… Continue

Single and Fabulous? The adventures of Princess Bubble

With the May 30th premier of SATC, the movie, the timing is just about perfect for a children’s book that celebrates the virtues of being single, having fun with your friends, and seeing the world over marrying a dullard prince. The message of Princess Bubble is loud and clear: find your own happily ever after!

Did you see The new Bachelorette, DeAnna, the other night? I watched most of it while cleaning up and my thoughts were, “This is the best you have?” DeAnna is from Newnan, GA. I grew up right down the road so I wanted to check out the show. The Bachelorette is only 26; so you would think they could find great single guys in that age group! Maybe now that she has eliminated 10 guys; some of these men will show more depth or character.

Not All Princesses Need a Prince Review by Menstrual Poetry
Parents read to their children all the time; in fact, some expectant mothers read to their children while they are still in utero and one of the most popular things that parents read to their children are fairy tales.
One thing you will be slapped in the face with repeatedly while reading any fairy tale is that all fairy princesses find their prince and then live happily ever after. Of course most fairy tales were written so long ago t… Continue
