Photographer Gina Garan, of This is Blythe fame, has designedGinagirls, the latest dolls for the hippest
collectors, in collaboration with the well-known Australian artist Christina Gordon.
The first all plush fashion dolls in doll history, ginagirls are reminiscent of 1960s paper dolls, and children painted by the 60's big-eye artist known as Lee. Notable for their mod 60's-influenced clothing, ambivalent expressions, and stylish hairdos, ginagirls would not be out of place next to other legendary fashion dolls such as AltaModa Furga, Twiggy, and of course Blythe.
Each ginagirl doll is 10" tall and initially produced as part of a limited edition of 500. For the discerning teenage and adult collector. Recommended for ages 15 and older.
The official launch of ginagirls came in December 2006 at Gallery Le-le in Tokyo, Japan, and at Parco Oita, on the southern island of Kyushu. Ms. Garan and Junko Wong of CWC - a renowned doll producer in her own right - were both in attendance to promote the dolls. The standing-room-only events brought out the most rabid Japanese collectors, all vying for a place in line to snap up one of each of the four models. As with Blythe, we expect the market for ginagirls to be teenagers and adults with an eye for collecting says Ms. Garan. This isn't a doll you want your two-year old gnawing on.
